Introduction

Founded in 1895 as Peiyang University, Tianjin University (TJU) is the first university in China.

In 1937, some universities including Peiyang University formed the Northwest United University , the Chemical Engineering Department belonged to the Institute of Technology. In 1952, 7 top chemical engineering departments were merged into the Chemical Engineering Department at TJU. In 1997, the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology (SCET) is formed based on the original Chemical Engineering Department. After years of development and construction, SCET has produced outstanding achievements in education, research and professional training. The discipline of chemical engineering has ranked No.1 in China Discipline Ranking (CDR) for consecutive ranking years of 2003, 2006, and 2012, and meanwhile Tianjin Co-Innovation Center of Chemical Science and Engineering(COIC-CSE) became one of the first 14 collaborative innovation centers of in China.

There are 256 faculty and staff members at SCET including 1 member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences(CAS), 2 members of Chinese Academy of Engineering(CAE), 5 “Cheung Kong Scholars” professors, 6 National Science Foundation of China Outstanding Young Investigators, 4 National Science Foundation of China Excellent Young Investigators. In addition, the members are active in international academic exchange, we have 2 fellows of Royal Society of Chemistry(RSC), 6 fellows of Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE), 7 editors and 17 consultants of international academic journals.

The School is excellent in teaching for undergraduates and postgraduates, with 1 national key discipline, 1 post-doctoral research center, 1 state key laboratory, 4 state engineering research centers, 2 state key centers for the promotion of scientific and technological achievements, 3 key laboratories of the ministry of education, and 3 key laboratories of Tianjin. In addition, there are 3 winners of national “Distinguished Teachers” awards, 7 teaching teams, 2 state professional training innovation centers, 3 subjects of “Plan for Educating and Training Outstanding Engineers”. In recent years, SCET has engaged in more than 40 national and provincial education reform projects, with 12 national teaching achievement awards, 30 provincial teaching achievement awards and more than 50 national textbooks were published. The students of the school have won over 30 prizes, including 2 international gold prizes, 1 silver prize, 1 bronze prize, 1 national grand prize and 1 national first prize.‍

In the last five years, SCET has published 2070 SCI indexed papers and 1972 EI indexed papers, including 1053 papers indexed in the top international journals of JCR (partition one and two) and 1073 patent applications with 566 be authorized. We have made fruitful achievements in the fields of distillation technology, industrial crystallization technology, bioethanol technology, advanced technologies of synthetic fuels, synthetic biology and so on. SCET is committed to international collaboration with other institutions throughout the world and to develop international reputation. We are always interested in providing new and exciting opportunities for professionals to join us.
