First Class on Laboratory Safety for the New Term at the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology

At the beginning of the new semester, in order to enhance safety awareness and emergency handling ability of the faculty and students, effectively prevent safety accidents, and protect health and safety of all staff and students, the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology organized "the First Class on Laboratory Safety for the New Term" on February 28, 2023.

More than 500 people including Laboratory Safety Officers, postgraduate students and undergraduates attended the event. Ms. Qi Xiangjuan, a senior engineer of Chemical Technology Experimental Center and an expert of the Ministry of Education's Laboratory Safety Inspection Team in 2021, was invited to give a lecture. The event was hosted by Vice Dean Wang Jun.

Wang Jun said that laboratory safety is the foundation to promote high-quality development of the School, and all people in the laboratory should further enhance political awareness and responsibility, and shoulder the responsibility of laboratory safety. Students should improve their safety awareness and safety emergency response ability, strictly comply with the experimental operation specification and pay attention to personal protection.

Ms. Qi Xiangjuan gave a detailed explanation on the whole life cycle management of dangerous chemicals and emergency disposal of dangerous chemicals in the laboratory. The importance of MSDS and SOP was emphasized. Before conducting experiments and using chemicals, students should read the technical instructions of chemical safety carefully, wear necessary protective equipment and carry out experiments according to the standard operation procedures.

By this first lesson, teachersand studentsfurther deepened their knowledge and understanding of the hazards, protection and emergency handling of hazardous chemicals, improved their safety awareness, so as to create a safer and more orderly, innovative and energetic atmosphere for learning and working.
