Gabriele Centi and Dmitry Yu. Murzin Conferred as Honorary Professors of Tianjin University

On October 16, Professor Gabriele Centi, President of the International Association of Catalysis Societies, and Professor Dmitry Yu. Murzin, Elected Member of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters, were conferred as honorary professors by Tianjin University (TJU) when attending the 18th Chinese National Conference on Catalysis (18th NCC) organized by TJU and the Catalysis Society of China.

At the conferring ceremony held at Tianjin Social Mountain International Convention Center, Hu Wenpin, TJU’s Vice President, conferred the certificates of TJU honorary professorship and wood plaques to the two professors and delivered a speech. He stated that TJU had been listed among China’s plan to develop world-class universities, and some disciplines had been selected as “First-class disciplines project”. Accordingly, The University will endeavor to strengthen its cooperation with internationally renowned professors and scholars. He believed that the two professors’ joining TJU would promote the development of the relevant disciplines and contribute to TJU’s "Double World-Class" plan.

Professor Centi expressed his sincere gratitude at being presented with an Honorary Professorship and looked forward to further cooperation. Professor Murzin said he was greatly honored at being invited to the 18th NCC and he expressed his confidence in the development of chemical engineering in China.
Professor Centi is a Full Professor of Industrial Chemistry at the University of Messina and President of the European Research Institute of Catalysis. His research interests are in the areas of applied heterogeneous catalysis, chemical reaction engineering, and industrial heterogeneous catalysts for applications in environment protection and sustainable energy. He has successively applied for three international patents and a national-level one. In 2013, he won the (German) Frontiers Chemical Energy Science Award, and in 2015 the European Chemical Society Cooperation Award.
Professor Murzin works for Chemical Technology at ？bo Akademi University, Turku, Finland and is the former Vice President of the European Federation of Catalysis Societies. His fields of interest include heterogeneous catalysts, catalytic kinetics, catalytic reaction engineering, fine chemicals and chemicals from biomass. In 2016, he was awarded the First Class Knight Order of the White Rose of Finland.
