Tianjin University and Western University Signed Cooperation Agreement

On November 9, 2016, Prof. Amit Chakma, principal of Western University in Canada, and Prof. Zhu Jingxu, a fellow of the Canadian Academy of Engineering and Canada Research Chair, visited Tianjin University (TJU). Zhong Denghua, president of TJU met with the delegation, while administrative officials in charge of the School of Chemical Engineering and Technology, Office of Undergraduate Affairs, Graduate School, and Office of International Cooperation attended the meeting.
During the talks, Zhong Denghua briefly introduced the historical development, current development situation, Peiyang Park campus and the internationalization of our University. He said that internationalization was an inexorable trend impacting the development of today’s universities and also the crucial means focusing Universities’ “Double Top” construction. Thanks to Academician Zhu Jingxu’s contributions to the cooperation, Tianjin University has successfully conducted substantive work in Chemical Engineering with Western University. Both sides expect that they will continue to expand cooperation, and also develop all-around cooperation, including English course construction, mutual communication between teachers and students.
Principal Amit Chakma briefly introduced Western University’s profile and paid particular attention to the “Innovative talent and international cooperation project” and the “Outstanding undergraduate design project” conducted by the two Universities. He said that Tianjin University was a significant partner of Western University, hoping both sides would further join hands to achieve the even more fruitful results in disciplines like Chemical Engineering and Pharmacology. After the meeting, Zhong Denghua, representing our university, signed an agreement for the united training of double doctorates and an agreement for the united training of students with Amit Chakma.

Western University is located in Ontario, Canada, and is a public university, with more than 130 years of history and a profound human resources background. The University’s Business Studies and Medical School has won it great international repute and influence, leading the world in wind tunnel research, alternative energy, small chemical engines used in industry and nutrition. The School of Chemical Engineering and Technology of our University has developed a wide range of student exchange programs basedon scientific research cooperation with Western University since 2014. Presently, more than 20 students have participated in exchange programs with them and other universities in Ontario.
